Is there an electric light for at night?

Solatube offers two available light kit options so the Solatube can double as a standard lighting fixture.

1. Incandescent Light Add-on Kits are available for both the 10" (250mm) and 14" (350mm) Solatube. The 10" kit accepts one incandescent lamp up to 100-watt. The 14" kit accepts two incandescent lamps up to 100-watt. While there is minimal blockage of sunlight when a light kit is used, this can be minimized by using a clear bulb.
2. Compact Fluorescent Light Kit: This kit does not accept standard light bulbs, only special compact fluorescent bulbs with a pronged plug. It is available for users who want a very energy efficient light fixture. In California, Title 24 mandates the use of a compact fluorescent fixture in bathroom applications for the primary, general lighting fixture. This fixture accepts one 26-watt compact fluorescent lamp. One fixture may be used for the 10" Solatube. One or two fixtures may be used for the 14" Solatube.

Is there a Vent Kit available?

The 10" (250mm) Solatube is available with an attractive optional Ventilation Kit. When the 10" Solatube is combined with a Vent Kit and a Light Kit, it becomes an attractive 3-in-one ceiling fixture.

How does the optional Vent Add-on Kit work?

The Ventilation Add-on Kit has an additional intake cowl that installs around the perimeter of the ceiling portion of the 10" (250mm) Solatube only.

No air moves through the skylight. It moves air through a separate chamber, then through an exhaust duct and outlet.

How strong is the fan in the vent kit?

Solatubes' proprietary twin fan/motor is rated at 110-CFM (cubic feet per minute) (3 cubic Meters per minute) which is of much higher performance than a standard bathroom vent that most of us have in our homes. This ensures quick and effective ventilation.

Is the Solatube vent fan quieter then the one I have now?

A key feature of this product is that the fan/motor is not positioned at the ceiling, but in-line up in the attic. This significantly reduces the noise level in the room below.

Will a Solatube work with both a light and vent kit at the same time?

Yes. They can be combined with any 10" (250mm) Solatube for a 3-in1 fixture (vent, skylight, light).

Will add-on kits require multiple ceiling fixtures?

Solatube offers a series of add-on kits for the Brighten Up^® Series that allow the user to minimize the number of ceiling penetrations and fixtures within the living area by combining the Solatube skylight with a light fixture and/or a bathroom vent fixture.
